. trivia .

  • Green River is a tributary of the larger Colorado River - which, of course, runs through Beth's home state. [source]
  • Up On Surrey Ridge is based on a real-life murder that took place in  Douglas County in Colorado in 2006. The Maria mentioned in the song is Luz-Maria Franco-Fierro, the victim who had been tied to the back of a truck and dragged for several miles  by her boyfriend Jose Luis Rubi-Nava. [source]
  • The title character of Veronica's Working The Lunch Shift is classic Hollywood screen siren Veronica Lake, a blazing sex symbol in the 1940s whose career subsequently crashed and burned. In the 1960s, she was reportedly found working as a barmaid (hence the title of the song) at the Martha Washington Hotel in Manhattan. [source]
